How to do Pranav Sadhana
This verse is found in the scriptures about Pranav i.e. Om: Omkarshch Athshabdshch Dvavitau Brahmanah Pura. Kantham Bhitva Viniryatau Tasmanmanglikavubhau. The first word from the mouth of Brahma, the creator of the universe, was 'Om' and the second word was 'Ath'.
Turned out. For this reason both these words are considered extremely sacred. Generally every Vedic mantra starts with Omkar. Pronunciation of quantitative Pranava through Pranayama is the highest level of Pranava Sadhana. Pranav Sadhana should be started only after the mind becomes concentrated through pure conduct and rigorous sadhana. The next stage of 'Soham' sadhana is Pranav Sadhana. Regarding Pranav Sadhana, the statement of the book 'Gopath Brahman' is as follows - A seeker who desires to realize Brahma should remain fast for three days and nights. Additionally, he should face east, maintain silence, and sit on a cushion and mentally chant Omkar a thousand times. This fulfills all his desires and fulfills his karmas.
Various forms of Pranava Sadhana are prevalent. Pranava Sadhana is performed according to the sect. However, regardless of the sect, one thing is common: sitting in one place and at the same time, continuously chanting Pranava. In some sects, the gross practice of chanting Omkar as many times as possible while performing Pranayama (external breathing) is prevalent. In some sects, the practice of chanting Omkar in the mind, i.e., subtle Omkar Sadhana, is prevalent. Some practitioners first practice gross Omkar Sadhana and then move on to subtle Omkar Sadhana. Similarly, some practitioners practice Omkar daily, while others practice Omkar only occasionally. Some practitioners perform Omkar Sadhana with a specific desire in mind, while others prefer selfless Omkar Sadhana. Synthesizing all these, some noble men have recommended Pranava Sadhana as follows.
With pure conduct, perform the gross Omkar Sadhana once on a regular basis. Eat a light meal the previous night, and after bathing the next day, sit on a clean seat. Then, facing east, chant Om in a medium tone as many times as possible. Initially, chant 10 times, and then gradually chant 20-25 times in a long form.Consider chanting 20 Omkaras, one for a second, as the beginning of true spiritual practice. Begin with 10 Omkaras, one for 10 seconds, and then 100 in the advanced stage. Householders should not chant Omkaras in large numbers.
Scriptures indicate that those whose householder life has been going on for more than 25 years, or whose sensual desires have completely subsided, have no objection to chanting them in large numbers. If the regular practice is once every seven days, then gradually increase it to once every four days and then once every three days, and then start practicing it daily. If there is a possibility of negative thoughts starting to wander during the Pranava practice, reduce the frequency. If anger, anguish, or irritability increase, also reduce the frequency. Increase the frequency only when you experience increased peace of mind and feel material progress.
After practicing gross Omkara worship in the above manner for a few years, begin subtle Omkara worship. Close the earlobes by applying pressure to the front of the ear with your thumbs. Press the edges of the eyes slightly with your forefingers and close your eyes. Place the remaining fingers on your forehead. It is best to support the two corners. Then begin chanting Om. Keep your introspection between the eyebrows. By mentally chanting Om, various colorful images and shapes appear before your inner vision. If the images appear round, luminous, radiant, and resembling the sun, concentrate your mind. After a few days, you will begin to see a single shape. Gradually, the six chakras, starting with the Muladhara, will awaken. As each chakra awakens, a distinctive musical sound will be heard in your ears. At such times, your pre-ordained guru will find his way to you for further guidance. Immerse yourself at his feet, receive further guidance from him, and attain selfless salvation.
The Omkar symbol resembles the English letter U. Write it on birch bark or paper using saffron as per the shape. Place a dot in the center of the U. The U symbol represents the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space, and the dot (0) represents the Supreme Being. This same Supreme Being incarnates as consciousness. Those who wish to practice Pranava Sadhana using the three-dimensional Omkar symbol should consult a knowledgeable person to understand its direction and sequence.
